What They DoThe work of a bricklayer is divided into different categories during new construction, remodeling, maintenance and restoration of buildings and structures. The bricklayer not only works with brick, but with a variety of material such as limestone, sandstone, granite, marble, terra cotta, tile, terrazzo, cement, firebrick, caulking, acids and sealants. Different masonry materials require the bricklayer to acquire proper mental and physical skills to prepare them for the range of work. Working ConditionsMajority of work is outdoors. Work depends on weather conditions. Work is done on scaffolding so working at heights is required. Work is active and often strenuous, with stooping and lifting. Interest and TemperamentPersons should enjoy working with their hands and accept working outside under many different weather conditions. Good eyesight is especially important, as well as careful, accurate work and manual dexterity. General Qualifications
