Contractors Assistance Committee

The Construction Employers Association’s (CEA) Board of Directors has approved a new committee at CEA, the Constructors Assistance Committee (CAC).  This Committee, working in partnership with the Urban League of Greater Cleveland, and numerous other community organizations, is charged to find, develop and/or improve employment opportunities for minority contractors and City of Cleveland residents.  Dominic Ozanne, of Ozanne Construction Company, Inc., is the chairman of this committee.

Our first meeting held on May 23 was very well attended by individuals who can make a significant change in the northeast Ohio construction industry.  At this meeting, three initials goals were developed:

(1) Assist the Construction Employers Association and the Associated General Contractors in complying with the City of Cleveland’s Fannie Lewis Law by hiring a minimum of 20% Cleveland city residents.  This effort will include outreach in conjunction with union affiliated pre-apprenticeship training organizations;

(2) Assist the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) and Cuyahoga Community College in their efforts to implement school to apprenticeship programs, internships and other industry related college and professional training programs to increase the supply of highly skilled tradespersons and construction professionals; and

(3) Development of a program to assist minority and female contractors with business management, estimating, blueprint reading, safety and health training and other technical assistance, including the development of mentor protégé and contractor/subcontractor and joint venture relationships.

In regard to item #2, there currently are CMSD students in need of summer internship/employment.  Many of these students are affiliated with Max Hayes High School’s construction curriculum.

If you could provide a student(s) with an employment opportunity this summer it would be greatly appreciated on a number of levels.  Please consider working with the CAC by offering an opportunity to a student(s).  The resumes of prospective interns are available by clicking on their name:
