Construction Safety Council Announces Alliance with OSHA
June 26, 2007– The Construction Safety Council of Northeast Ohio, Cleveland
Office of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and OSHA On-Site
Consultation have entered into an
Alliance to reduce hazards and enhance safety
and health in construction in northeast Ohio.
“This alliance seeks to reach employees and
employers
at all levels in the area’s construction industry and provide them with the
knowledge and ability to anticipate, identify and eliminate work-related
hazards,” said Rob Medlock, OSHA’s Area Director in Cleveland.
The alliance partners will work together to develop delivery systems for safety
an health information within the industry, addressing key issues in construction
and encouraging the use of voluntary compliance programs among the councils 110
member businesses.
This is the first step a contractor can take in getting into a Partnership with
OSHA through CEA/CISP. Contractors must be a member of the Construction Safety
Council to be eligible for the Partnership. The enrollment deadline to the
Construction Safety Council is July 30, 2007. Call

Objectives
-
To sponsor and promote safety in the construction industry through
educational activities.

To provide a forum for safety and health information, and
networking in local communities.

To disseminate safety and health information to members of the
CSCNEO.

To develop additional programs and activities directed at the
improvement of safety programs in the construction industry.

To promote participation in the All-Ohio Safety and Health Congress
and Exhibit and educational opportunities offered by other safety
organizations.
Enrollment Eligibility
-
Enrollment in the safety council is open to all private companies,
self-insured, public employers and state agencies in
Ohio who pay
premiums to the workers’ compensation system.

Employers that are currently members or contributors of the
following associations / industry funds can join the CSC of Northeast Ohio
for Free: CEA, CISP, MAPIC, NECA, NOPTCA and SMACNA.

Employers that are not currently members or contributors of one of
the previously mentioned associations or industry funds can still join the
CSC of Northeast Ohio.

Those
employers will have to pay the annual $500 membership dues upon making
application.
Workers’ Compensation
Discount
-
The discount is available to employers actively
participating in the safety council program
July 1, 2007 –
June 30, 2008.

Employers can earn
a 2-percent discount for
meeting all of the eligibility requirements and a 2-percent performance
bonus for reducing either Workers’ Compensation - frequency or severity
rates by 10 percent, or with maintenance of both Workers’ Compensation -
frequency and severity rates at zero.

Only those Employers
qualifying for the 2% discount for Attendance can qualify for the additional
2% discount for Performance.

That means you could
earn a 4-percent discount off
your workers’ compensation premium by actively participating in your local
safety council between July 1, 2007, and June 30, 2008.
“Active”
members must:

Be enrolled in the safety council by
July 31, 2007;
-
Send representatives to at least ten meetings between
July 1, 2007 and
June 30, 2008 (One of these meetings will be the awards banquet);

Have a qualified senior management representative at the October
safety council CEO event (this counts as one of your ten meetings);
-
Submit semi-annual reports for the calendar year 2007 to meet the
incentive criteria.
