Topic: Musculoskeletal Disorders in the Construction Trades

Presenters: Michael Milicia & Rebecca Linnean, Occupational Therapists Specializing in Industrial Rehabilitation – Cleveland Clinic

What are work-related musculoskeletal disorders? What are the risk factors, and how can we prevent them? Musculoskeletal disorders are particularly prevalent across a range of construction industry trades with estimates suggesting that as many as 30% of the workforce may be affected.

Rebecca Linnean graduated with a degree in Physical Therapy from University of Toledo/ Medical College of Ohio in 1996. Ms. Linnean obtained her doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2011 from Chatham University in Pittsburgh. She worked for Medina Hospital/Cleveland Clinic as a Physical Therapist/Clinical Team Leader since 1996. She work in the outpatient setting with orthopedic and industrial injuries. Ms. Linnean has experience working with employers for post offer screens, functional capacity evaluations and ergonomic assessments.

Michael Milicia is the Clinical Team Leader for main campus in charge of: Return To Work Services, Chronic Pain and Rehabilitation Program, Drivers Program/Low Vision, and Occupational Therapy Services. Clinical areas of specialization include: Work Conditioning, Functional Capacity Evaluations, Job Analysis and Ergonomic Assessment. Within the provision of services for rehabilitation of the injured worker, Mr. Milicia focuses on: the development of simulated work programs based on the patient’s essential job requirements and biomechanical education so as to reduce the risk of reinjury.
