Presented by: Chad Ode, Foundation Software

What are the latest trends in construction software, and how can you get the most advantage out of them for your business? Chad Ode of Foundation Software will review some of the most recent changes in the industry, including the growing shift to cloud computing. We’ll look at what it is, how it impacts construction, and some of the pluses and minuses in moving from on-premise to cloud software. Finally, we’ll talk about the mobile revolution and its opportunities for companies like yours, such real-time data collection from the jobsite with smart-device field logs for weather, notes, job costing and more.

Virtual Reality in Construction: Changing your Perspective

Presented by: Jason Gebhardt, The Whiting-Turner Contracting Co.; Marvin Echols, The Whiting Turner Contracting Co.; and Rocco A. Gallo, Karpinski Engineering

Advancements in technology have allowed the construction industry to adopt VR technology that can be used across all phases of a construction project.  From initial site studies, to walking through mechanical rooms before excavation begins, and documenting construction progress, these tools allow project teams to work more efficiently while providing a greater level of transparency during the building process.  

Drones in Construction: Features and Regulations

Presented by: David Stahl, AECOM

Drones are often used for photos on the construction site, but they can do so much more! In this session, participants will learn about current drone features, and how they are being utilized in construction and related industries. This presentation will cover current FAA regulations, the difference between private and commercial use, and the history and development of these laws. Participants will learn about the process of earning a drone pilot's license, various training programs that are available, and what the license allows a pilot to do.

Panel Discussion: Implementing New Technology

How can contractors implement new technology in their day-to-day operations? What are some of the challenges involved? What is important to include in social media and document sharing policies? During lunch, participants will hear a panel discussion about these and other aspects of incorporating and using technology in their businesses. 

Panel Speakers Include:

 Christina Niro, Frantz Ward

Christina advises and represents employers in a broad range of employment law matters, from discrimination, retaliation, and harassment, to cases involving contract disputes, restrictive covenants, trade secret misappropriation and unfair competition. She has litigated and tried cases in state and federal courts and various administrative agencies. Christina also provides employers of all sizes with day-to-day preventive counseling on wage and hour issues, employee discipline, litigation prevention strategies, employee handbook and policy development, and adherence to federal and state family and medical leave laws. Christina also conducts EEO training to help employers understand, prevent and correct discrimination in the workplace. 

Joseph Chubb, Comtec Information Systems 

Joseph Chubb is the founder and President of Comtec Information Systems, LLC (CTIS), which was started in 2007. CTIS is a virtual IT firm that provides innovative technology expertise to small and mid-sized businesses primarily in Northeast Ohio. Joe has over 30 years of IT experience dating back to 1984. Joseph currently holds or has held multiple certification with Microsoft, Citrix and IBM and has an AAS Electrical Engineering from the Air Force Community College in association with the University of Maryland.

Jeff Young, Infinity Construction

Jeff Young is a project manager at Infinity Construction, with 18+ years of commercial experience in public works, healthcare, educational and private markets. His experience with implementing new technologies for project management systems include Building Information Modeling (BIM), Multivista, Plangrid, Primavera Contact Manager, and other project management systems with fast remote company main server access for all employees.
