LARS C. GOLUMBIC

Lars is a principal with the Groom Law Group and is a member of the firm’s litigation group and a co-head of the firm’s funding and restructuring group. Lars represents plan fiduciaries on matters related to plan funding, withdrawal liability, and termination. Lars also represents plan trustees and other fiduciaries with respect to ERISA litigation, preemption, and fiduciary issues, as well as Department of Labor and Internal Revenue Service investigations. Lars is listed as a leading lawyer in ERISA litigation and employee benefits in The Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers, the U.S. Legal 500, and Chambers USA. 

Lars graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Northwestern University, receiving a bachelor of art’s degree in history. Lars received a master’s degree in history from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and a juris doctor degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law. Lars served as a federal judicial law clerk for the Honorable Robert G. Doumar, United States District Judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

JOSH SHAPIRO

Josh is a senior actuarial advisor with the Groom Law Group and is a member of the firm’s plan funding and restructuring group. Josh advises clients on the design, funding, and administration of their retirement plans. His experience includes working with a wide range of organizations to ensure that their retirement programs meet their financial and human resources objectives while complying with the applicable laws and human resources objectives while complying with the applicable laws and IRS, PBGC and DOL regulations.
Josh graduated from Cornell University, receiving a bachelor of art’s degree in mathematics. Josh is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, a member of the American Academy of Actuaries, and an Enrolled Actuary. Josh is a member of the Pension Committee of the American Academy of Actuaries, and is the vice-chair of the Multiemployer Subcommittee. Josh is a frequent speaker and author on multiemployer pension topics, and has testified before the United States House of Representatives on the need for legislation to reform ERISA’s funding rules. Prior to joining the Groom Law Group, Josh was deputy director for research and education with the National Coordinating Committee for Multiemployer Plans.
