Speaker's Biography:

Bernard Silkowski joined the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, Division of Safety and Hygiene, in February 2015 after a 25-year career in the utility industry in New England and Ohio.  During that time he provided safety services for a wide range of operations, construction, and support activities.  His first two years with BWC were as Director of Technical Services and Support in which he led a team that provided expert safety, ergonomics, and industrial hygiene guidance and support to the division’s safety and health consultants in the field.

In February 2017 Bernie was named to the new position of Director of Loss Prevention Operations.  In this capacity he oversees loss prevention field operations throughout Ohio, the OSHA On-Site Consultation Program, the Ohio Public Employment Risk Reduction Program (PERRP), and the Quality Assurance and Technical Support Unit.  The 125 construction and industrial safety, industrial hygiene, and ergonomics professionals in this organization work with employers to reduce their risk of injury and illness through workplace consultations, training, and other programs and services.

Bernie is a Certified Safety Professional, a professional member of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), and a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard.  He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and a Master of Science degree in industrial engineering from the University of New Haven.
