Best Practices for Project Documentation: Protecting your trade secrets, your rights on the project, and against fatal document retention mistakes.
Construction project participants generate significant paper and electronic files, including plans and specifications, project correspondence, submittals and approvals, substantial completion documents, insurance certificates, and warranty information. Too often, a project participant must have access to records years after project completion to respond to claims and problems. This program will include an interactive discussion of best practices for protecting your trade secrets, managing project documents, document retention, which is critical for legal compliance, claims defense, and risk transfer. We will focus on what documents, paper and electronic, your company should keep to defend against future claims. The program will also focus on risks associated with long term warranty obligations often hidden in contract specifications.
