Topic:   Work Zone Standards and Safety Practices

Work zone safety is a broad area.  This will not be your basic info, that you already know.  The presentation will explain all the parts of a work zone and why standards are important.  Michael will also cover incident management and technology.  We will hear an update you on what ODOT is trying to do as a department to increase work zone safety for both motorists and workers and some of the up and coming technologies that contractors will start to see.

Speaker's Biography

Michael Simpkins has over 20 years of engineering experience in both the public and private sectors.  He has worked for ODOT for the past 15 years.  Michael is currently the ODOT District 4 Work Zone Manager as well as the District 4 TSMO coordinator.

He has a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Akron and is a licensed professional engineer in Ohio.
