Topic:    The Evolution of Head Protection

A historical review of the evolution of head protection in the construction industry and why it is time to grow the culture to embrace a new style hard hat.

Presenter:   Tom Lippert, Vice President Safety & Quality Assurance - The Albert M. Higley Co,

Bio:

Tom received a B.S. in Marketing as a Distinguished Military Graduate from Penn State University in 1989, and a M.B.A. from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2001.  In a 22-year, highly decorated career with the United States Army, he rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was directly responsible for more than $15 billion in defense contracts. Tom joined The Albert M. Higley Co. in 2010 as Vice President.  He is a member of the American Society of Safety Professionals.

Under Tom’s leadership, AMHigley reduced recordable injuries significantly.  When he began his tenure, the company was averaging 10 to 15 recordable injuries a year while working approximately 157,000 hours annually.  In the most recent years, and while his company more than doubled the number of hours worked to over 375,000 hours, the recordable injuries have been in the low single digits.

AMHigley is proud to be a leader in growing the safety culture in the Cleveland, Detroit, Pittsburgh, West Virginia and New Jersey markets.  While numerous challenges compete for project resources, the AMHigley Company’s resolve is to place worker’s safety as the most essential priority in all that we do.  The decision to incorporate a new style hardhat with front, side and rear impact ratings and an integrated visor is just one of the ways that the company remains committed to doing all it can for worker’s safety.
