Main Areas of Responsibility:
Reports to the Deputy General Manager of Legal Affairs and the General Manager, the Director of Safety sets, directs and implements safety policies for the organization. The position directs, facilitates, and takes a proactive approach towards the implementation of a safety management system. The position leverages RTA personnel and ensures accountability at all levels to ensure safety issues are identified, mitigated and resolved. Reports to State Safety Oversight agency on all aspects of regulation 49 CFR Part 659.
Additional Areas of Responsibility:
Directs and supervises Safety personnel. Directs and conducts the investigation of accidents and oversees preparation of root-cause analysis reports with identification of causal factors and recommendations. Ensures that RTA facilities are in compliance with federal, state and local safety regulations and standards, including environmental regulations, NFPA and Fire codes. Motivates employees by directing safety outreach campaigns, safety committees, and safety recognition programs.
Bachelor's Degree preferably in Industrial Safety, Risk Management, Industrial Management, Engineering, or related field. A Master’s degree in safety or transportation is also preferred. Applicants must have at least eight (8) years of experience in a position dealing with transportation and safety issues, OSHA regulations, environmental compliance programs and a working knowledge of rail safety oversight regulations and safety certification of large projects. Experience must include at least four (4) years of supervision. Bilingual abilities are a plus.
