Who is CEA's Lobbyist?
Tim Cassell
Owner - Governmental Networking
Timothy J. Cassell is a dedicated public servant, labor advocate, and government relations expert with over two decades of experience bridging the worlds of organized labor, state legislation, and community engagement. Born and raised in Ohio, Tim's career reflects a lifelong commitment to working families, economic justice, and effective policy-making, rooted in his hands-on background as a skilled carpenter and his passion for public service.
Tim began his professional journey in the construction trades as a journeyman carpenter with **Carpenter Local 95**, where he honed his expertise in craftsmanship and quickly became an active voice for workers' rights. His dedication to the labor movement led to a pivotal role as a representative with the **Carpenters Ohio and Vicinity Regional Council of Carpenters**, one of the nation's largest regional councils representing tens of thousands of carpenters, millwrights, and floorlayers across Ohio and neighboring states. In this capacity, Tim advocated for fair wages, safe working conditions, and apprenticeship programs that empower the next generation of tradespeople, drawing on his firsthand knowledge of the industry's challenges and opportunities.
Building on his labor roots, Tim transitioned into elected office, serving as a **Democratic State Representative for Ohio's 63rd District** from 2005 to 2006. Representing communities in Madison Township and surrounding areas, he focused on public safety, economic development, and social equity. A notable achievement was his sponsorship of legislation to impose tougher penalties on repeat OVI (Operating a Vehicle Impaired) offenders, emphasizing evidence-based reforms to protect Ohio families on the roads. Throughout his tenure, Tim was known for his bipartisan approach, coalition-building skills, and accessibility to constituents, navigating complex legislative issues with integrity and resilience despite personal and professional hurdles.
Following his time in the Ohio House, Tim channeled his extensive network and expertise into entrepreneurship, founding **Governmental Networking** in the years after 2006. As Managing Partner of this Columbus-based firm, he provides strategic consulting services in government relations, lobbying, and stakeholder engagement, helping clients—ranging from nonprofits to trade associations—navigate state and local policy landscapes. Under his leadership, Governmental Networking has become a trusted resource for fostering meaningful connections between public officials, community leaders, and industry partners, continuing Tim's mission to amplify the voices of everyday Ohioans.
Holding a Bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University’s Eli Broad College of Business, Tim remains an active mentor in civic affairs, supporting initiatives in workforce development, education, and union advocacy. His career trajectory—from the job site to the Statehouse and beyond—exemplifies a steadfast dedication to service, making him a respected figure in Ohio's political and labor communities.
