Topic: OBWC Safety Grants & Drug Free Workplace
Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation has nearly 1,600 employees and assets of approximately $21 billion, it is one of the largest state-run insurance systems in the United States. A part of this year’s budget is $35 million dollars to fund specialized grants to help employers improve safety in their workplace. This presentation will discuss the various grants that are currently available this fiscal year to employers from the Ohio BWC for state-insured employers. Presenters will describe the purpose of each grant, how much money is available to each grantee from a particular grant, the grant requirements, and how a perspective employer would apply for the grant. The presentation will also mention recent changes to Drug Free Safety Workplace for State Fund Job Sites
Speakers: Audrey Hemlinger and Mark Mallis
Mark Mallis is an Industrial Safety Consultant for the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, (BWC) and is based out of the Cleveland Service Office. Mark has been with the BWC since 2014. Prior to coming to the BWC, Mark spent the previous 8 years working in several Environmental, Health and Safety capacities for the pharmaceutical and folding carton industries.
Audrey Hemlinger is an Ergonomist for the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, (BWC) and is based out of the Cleveland Service Office. Audrey has been with the BWC since 2015. Prior to coming to the BWC, Audrey worked as a safety & health professional in mining and manufacturing. She is a certified safety professional and holds a Masters Degree in Occupational Safety & Health.
