Target audience – professionals with varying levels of construction experience, interested in understanding the basic principles and practices of construction estimating as well as more advanced practitioners that wish to enhance their estimating processes and best practices.
At the completion of this course the student should be able to:
- Understand the terms and tools associated with a construction estimate
- Perform quantity takeoffs on construction building materials
- Obtain a total estimated cost, including all markups, for a construction project
- Identify ways to avoid errors in estimates
- Describe and calculate the cost components of material, labor and equipment pricing
- Prepare a Request for Quote, write a scope of work and estimate subcontractor costs from historical data
- Calculate building permit, bond, and profit and overhead markups
- Obtain a total estimated cost, including all markups, for a construction project
- Identify ways to avoid errors in estimates
- Understand and perform a bid submission using standard bid documents and what should be included in a proposal letter
