EHS Specialist 1, Machine Shop Safety
Working under general supervision, the machine shop safety specialist supports and facilitates the research environment while protecting the health and safety of its personnel and the community. responsibilities include university compliance with federal, state, and local, construction, and life-fire safety regulations. This position works with the assistant directors of EHS as well as principle investigators and students to update or implement new university policy as need to ensure the university is at or exceeding industry best management practices.
This position develops and implements safety protocols, standard operating procedures and policies as needed to meet this goal. This position provides operational safety training and shop coordination for the Physical Plant machine shops on campus. This position will keep up with trends in machining and materials so that the services of the machine shops stay current.
- 1 to 3 years of experience
- Bachelor degree in an environmental health and safety or related field required.
- OSHA 30 HR. Construction card preferred.
- HAZWOPER (24 hr), EPA RCRA, DOT/IATA certification preferred.
