Delays in Building a new Cuyahoga County Justice Center Would be Costly

Every year the county delays in building a new Justice Center, or renovating the current one, will tack on tens of millions of dollars in construction costs, according to the project’s lead planner.

Jeff Appelbaum, an attorney with Thompson Hine in Cleveland, said that construction costs are estimated to rise annually by 6 percent. With the cost of the project expected to exceed $500 million that’s at least another $30 million per year.

That doesn’t include the expense of maintaining the dilapidated courthouse and antiquated jail that are part of the complex."
