Women in Construction: Alison Frye

As a part of Women in Construction (WIC) week, March 4-10, 2018, we are highlighting the contributions of local women in the industry. The following interview is with Alison Frye, Geotechnical/Pavement Consultant (Project Engineer) at SME, who has worked in the construction industry for 5 years.

How did you begin your career?

I began as a co-op for my company, doing materials testing on site and observing earthwork, foundation, and roadway construction.

What attracted you to the construction industry?

The opportunity to create something new, and improve our world.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Watching a project evolve from pre-design through final construction.

Best advice:

There will be tough, long days, but they will teach you the most and be valuable to your career.

Best experience:

Watching H-piles driving through swamp and into clay. A great way to spend the holidays!
