Melicia Montgomery

Superintendent

The AKA Team

How many years have you worked in the industry? 25 Years. Missey joined the 310 Laborers Union in 1998.

What attracted you to the construction industry? Melicia, (affectionately goes by Missey) was introduced to the construction industry by her father at a very young age. Missey's father owned an asphalt company and taught Missey along with her siblings how to lay asphalt and operate the machinery.

What do you enjoy most about your job? Enjoyment comes from working on individual project sites, being hands on and working with her construction crew. Being a Superintendent has allowed Missey to learn/witness each step of a Project i.e., Bidding, staffing, final clean & the close out.

What advice would you give other women considering the construction industry? Stay monitored, continue to learn, overcome the obstacles.

What can be done to attract more women to construction? Continue to create outreach programs, look for mentoring opportunities and be purposeful in recruiting and educating communities.

What do you like to do in your free time? Roller skate, workout, ride her motorcycle, listen to music and attend events with family and friends.
