As a part of Women in Construction (WIC) week, March 4-10, 2018, we are highlighting the contributions of local women in the industry. The following interview is with Susie Chaplin, Project Engineer at Donley's, who has worked in the construction industry for 6 years.
How did you begin your career?
I jumped into the construction industry after working as a soil scientist at a lab and an opportunity presented itself.
What attracted you to the construction industry?
The challenge of understanding the constructability of buildings/roads and finding more efficient ways of building within the time frame and cost.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love being autonomous in figuring out complex problems. Working with a wide range of personalities and walks of life makes it that much more exciting... and challenging.
Best advice:
You don't have to know everything, but understand the why.
Best experience:
My best experience still is having a supportive husband/life partner who continuously pushes and encourages me. Find a strong support system!
