The team hopes to finish the renovations by opening day of the 2015 season. "Our hope is that this is the first of multiple modifications," Danburg said.
Progressive Field, once known as Jacobs Field, opened in 1994. Since then, the Indians have spent roughly $23 million on capital improvements, including a bleacher expansion, the Budweiser patio and the Heritage Park hall of fame.
Despite those investments, attendance is down. This season, the Indians are averaging 18,659 fans per game, the second-smallest crowds in Major League Baseball.Last season, attendance was just over 1.57 million, down 57 percent from the team's 1999 peak.
