As reported by Crain's Cleveland Business', Stan Bullard.

Harbor Verandas will be the name christening a $12 million mixed-use apartment building that will go up at downtown Cleveland's North Coast Harbor."

The name was disclosed as Mayor Frank Jackson's office announced on Monday, Aug. 28, that a ceremonial groundbreaking for the project will take place at noon on Tuesday, Aug. 29, at 1050 E. Ninth St.

The structure, to be constructed by Cumberland Development of Cleveland, will consist of 16 apartments above ground-level retail, according to plans the developers presented May 5 to the Cleveland City Planning Commission. The site was previously home to a skateboard park.

The project will be the second building on the site. Nuevo Modern Mexican & Tequila Bar occupies Cumberland's first building on the site, which opened in 2016.

The city's news release stated that Dick Pace, Cumberland CEO, will join Jackson, council president Kevin Kelley and councilman Kerry McCormack, whose Ward 3 includes much of downtown Cleveland.

Future plans for the lakefront call for a joint venture by Cumberland and Dallas-based Trammell Crow Co. to build apartments and office buildings west of North Coast Harbor and north of First Energy Stadium, the home of the Cleveland Browns.

The new developments are north of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and Great Lakes Science Center.
