On May 5, more than 180 members of the union construction industry spent the day shooting clays during Cleveland Builds’ 2nd annual fundraiser. More than $60,000 was raised - $10,000 more than last year - to support Cleveland Builds' work to promote careers in the skilled trades. Cleveland Builds’ pre-apprenticeship training is perfect for those who like to work with their hands and want a fulfilling career with good pay and excellent benefits. This year’s Clay Shoot brought an increased number of participants, funds, fun and awareness raised.

For the first time since October 2019, the Cleveland Building Trades Tradeswomen Committee hosted their Apprenticeship Fair. 

The semi-annual event was paused in 2020 and the first part of 2021 for COVID-19 safety precautions.

After a year and a half pause, the apprenticeship fair resumed with an in-person event in mid-October at the Plumbers Local 55 Union Hall. The event drew more than 230 students and adults.

Brook Karnosh's career move involves shifting from working on one of the world's largest warships to woodworking as a carpenter. After four years of active Navy duty and traveling the world, she returned to Ohio, went into the reserves and got jobs in the private sector, including at Welty Building Co. The first pre-apprenticeship class for Cleveland Builds met Tuesday, July 13th with 31 participants. Shawn Gray, Jason Shank and Plumbers Local 55 are hosting the classes. 

Cleveland Builds' co-chairs, Tim Linville and Dave Wondolowski and executive director, Keith Laschinger, were present to welcome participants to the class on its first night.
